Increase driver app's adoption rate by 15%

Overview

Background

The Ofload Driver Mobile App was facing several challenges as it relied on legacy technology, leading to maintenance issues and a less-than-optimal user experience. The app's outdated framework hindered adaptability to new features. Additionally, feedback from truck drivers highlighted usability concerns and the need for a more intuitive interface.

Objective

Rebuild the app using React, not only to enhance maintainability but also to create a more user-friendly and efficient tool for truck drivers. Redesign and launch phase 1 of the new app.

Key Challenges

  • Outdated technology framework
  • Poor user experience
  • Maintenance difficulties
  • Complex user interactions

Role

  • Lead designer
  • Collaborated with PM and mobile app developer

3. Define scope for phase 1. Revise the IA and discuss with stakeholders

How might the Driver app help Simon:

  • Efficient load management: Simon can easily view and update load details, reducing time spent on administrative tasks.
  • Real-time updates: Instant notifications about route changes or delays keep Simon informed and allow him to adjust his plans accordingly.
  • User-friendly interface: A simple and intuitive interface ensures that Simon can navigate the app effortlessly, saving time and reducing frustration.

Phase 1 Scope

  • 8-digit PIN login
  • Load details viewing
  • Milestone updates
  • Proof of Delivery (POD) upload
  • Multi-stop support
  • Auto and manual progression options

4. Mid-fi prototyping & usability testing

In the process of refining the product, due to time constraint I needed to conduct usability testing with the internal team, including stakeholders. This collaborative effort involves the design team, product team, and key stakeholders, fostering a comprehensive understanding of the user experience.

Feedback from the usability test highlight important items:

  • Keep the design, including language, as simple as possible. Truck drivers value straightforward instructions.
  • It is crucial to cater for both auto-progression (milestones updated automatically based in the case geo-fencing is activated; otherwise user should be able to manually update on the app).

Design Considerations

  • Focused on straightforward, user-friendly interface
  • Catered to drivers' specific workflow needs
  • Implemented flexible milestone tracking
  • Simplified design and language for truck drivers
